Heritage property with a modern twist...

HEM Architects specialises in creative, sustainable residential architecture. They aim to design beautiful, practical homes that minimise environmental impact. "Our team takes inspiration from the mess and joy of your everyday life to create a beautifully crafted home that will delight you every day," says HEM Architects.

Last House, built by clients Jane and Craig, is a modern home in Teversal, a conservation village in north Nottinghamshire. Inspired by the historic surroundings, the house features two wings separated by an open-plan, double-height kitchen, living, and dining space. This design allows the family to gather in the main areas while providing separate living spaces for retreat. The ground floor includes a self-contained annex for Jane’s father, with a bedroom and bathroom.

After a recommendation from Jewson Chesterfield, Craig switched from Velux to FAKRO and found the experience positive. "I also found your Business Development Manager, Noel, to be very helpful," he adds.

FAKRO Products Used:

FTT U8 Thermo

Craig and Jane prioritized thermal performance, selecting the FTT U8 Thermo for its superior efficiency. "We wanted the best thermal performance possible which is why we chose the FTT U8 Thermo," says Craig.

Craig found FAKRO products easy to install with clear instructions, a necessity for general builders. "The products are very easy to install with really clear instructions," he notes.

FAKRO's high-performance windows and roof lights significantly improved the home’s thermal efficiency. The original plan for six roof lights increased to eight due to their excellent performance, enhancing natural light and making the mezzanine library a favourite spot. "This has led to more natural light on the stairwell and made our mezzanine library space one of my favourite places in the house," Craig shares.

Craig and Jane are thrilled with their flexible, multi-generational home. "Overall we have ended up with a wonderful, flexible, multi-generational home," says Craig. They look forward to using FAKRO products again in future projects.
